Sedation FAQ

Should I undergo sedation dentistry?

We recommend undergoing sedation dentistry if you are anxious, had a previous traumatic dental experience, or have a fear of the dentist. You may be a good candidate if you have a bad gag reflex, sensitive teeth, or are nauseous at the thought of going to the dentist. Always ask your dentist to make sure that this is right for you!

I don’t want to be unconscious, how will you accommodate?

You will NOT be unconscious throughout the procedure. However, you will be relaxed to remove ay anxiety or pain you had before treatment. In fact, you can talk and breathe during treatment and may recall fragments of the procedure.

What’s the timeframe for sedation?

You will be sedated for approximately 2-6 hours. This is contingent upon the type of sedation you are given as well as the length of your treatment.

Will someone watch over me?

There will always be one of our dental professionals with you during the appointment. Your safety is our priority and your vitals will be taken into account as well.

Will sedation affect me in the future?

Sedation dentistry will NOT affect you in the future. You will feel quite sleepy even after the procedure is over, but it will subside after a few hours. We recommend getting someone to drive you to and from our office.

Which procedures fall under sleep dentistry?

Our sedation dentistry service can be used for virtually any treatment. If you are anxious or fearful of the dentist, you should consult with us to see if this option is right for you.

Do I have to undergo sedation multiple times for a single procedure?

For a single procedure, we only require two visits. The initial checkup will ensure that you are a suitable candidate for sedation dentistry. The second appointment will be the procedure itself. Sometimes, we may treat you in just the first appointment and the second will be a follow-up.

Which insurance is covered?

If you need more information about insurance coverage, consult with us before considering sedation dentistry. Our team will review the type of insurance; however, it may not be included from your provider. If not, then our team will compile a financing plan for your situation.
